The Halpert Biennial ’05 National Juried Visual Art Competition & Exhibition

June 6, 2005 – September 1, 2005(This exhibition has passed.)

The Halpert Biennial, made possible by a generous endowment from Buddy and Charlotte Halpert, and dedicated to the memory of Charlotte Halpert, is a national, juried competition and exhibition program sponsored bi-annually by An Appalachian Summer Festival. The exhibition is designed to recognize new works by emerging and established artists residing in the United States. The juror for the 2005 competition is Mary Agnes Beach, Museum Curator for the City of Coral Gables, Florida.

Mary Agnes Beach is the third of five children of Susan Decker and Peter Beach. She spent her early childhood in suburban New York and moved with her family to Evanston, Illinois at the age of nine—staying through High School. Her interest in and knowledge of the visual arts was nurtured by those familial and urban cultures. Having started out as a working artist, Ms. Beach went on for professional training in art history and museum work attaining both a BA and MA in Art History. Over the past eighteen years she has held positions in the collections and exhibitions areas of six museums. Currently she heads the Museum Division for the City of Coral Gables Florida where she oversees an historic house museum and is working toward the creation of the Coral Gables Museum.
