March 5, 2010 – June 5, 2010(This exhibition has passed.)

Calligrapher and graphic design artist Barbara Yale-Read is a faculty member with Appalachian’s Department of Art. Born in Baltimore, Maryland, Barbara Yale-Read received her BA from Towson University and her MFA in graphic design from East Tennessee State University.

As a graphic designer, Yale-Read has worked with numerous clients to create a body of work which meets client needs and maintains impeccable design standards. The work featured in this exhibition focuses on her studio work that builds upon her strength as a calligrapher and image-maker. Many of these works are built around a poem or passage in which the written word relays its narrative not only through the story but through the graphic and expressionistic quality of the writing.
