Fine artist and painter Mario Prisco has been painting professionally for more than six decades. Some of his recent paintings recall his early years growing up in Brooklyn in the 1930’s and 40’s. Mario’s work is influenced by his large, extended family of first-generation Americans and the Italian-Jewish neighborhood in which he was raised. His earliest exposure to art-making came from his family: his grandfather was a sculptor and his uncle was a painter.
Studio furniture artist and designer Richard Prisco uses furniture as his creative vehicle. In addition, to being influenced by his father and uncle, Richard was largely influenced by the Studio Furniture Movement of the 1980’s and 90’s and is currently exploring structure as crafted expression. He is respected as a leading furniture maker and actively produces one-of-a-kind pieces. A new member of the Boone community, having left Savannah, Georgia, to teach at Appalachian State University, Richard hopes to inspire a new generation of furniture artists.
The dynamic qualities of these two artists and their complementary, yet unique, styles combine for an impressive exhibition.
