Girls, Derangements and Distortions: Photography by Carole Usdan

July 1, 2011 – August 27, 2011(This exhibition has passed.)

All of the images in this exhibit are related to women, particularly as depicted in cultural iconography. The barbies are beautiful but are disturbingly situated and the dolls are lost in some kind of uncertainty. The black and white faces are fractured or distorted from their original beauty.  This exhibition displays that beauty is not always benign.

About the artist

Carole Usdan has devoted herself to fine art photography. She is essentially self taught, aided along the way by important and influential mentors. The DOMA Fine Art Photography Gallery in Charlotte, NC represents her work, and is presenting it in a solo exhibition this spring. Her image Face (Distorted) was selected by Henry Rasmussen from over 10,000 submissions to appear on the cover of the August issue #76 of B&W Magazine. Her work appeared again in B&W issue #80.
