Collecting Worlds: Suzanna Bryan

April 2, 2010 – July 31, 2010(This exhibition has passed.)

Painter Suzanna Bryan works with layers of media, representing layers of consciousness. Her creative process involves working on multiple paintings at once, and her intuitive style involves developing images and figures in acrylic that she enhances with a variety of media, including collage materials, oil pastels, gouache and India ink. Layers of media reveal powerful images and figures.

Bryan has exhibited in numerous solo and group exhibitions and her work can be found in many private collections. The development of imagery through her intuitive and process driven style creates rich and interesting surfaces that draw the viewer into an investigative dialogue.

“Just as only the strongest images remain in your conscious mind when you awake from a meaningful dream, my paintings reflect those images or figures that are powerful enough to make it through the layers. Some survive; others do not. Some that I love, I lose along the way, and some I’d rather not see ever again keep re-emerging. In order to survive, an image or figure has to keep moving through the different layers up to the final surface of the painting.” – Suzanna Bryan
