This spring, the Furniture Design Program at Appalachian State University, will host the 7th annual Chair Competition to be held at the Turchin Center for the Visual Arts.
This year’s theme for the competition is “Design for Production.” The call for submissions was distributed to design, architecture, art programs located in North Carolina, Georgia, Virginia, Tennessee, Alabama and Texas. The competition will be judged by Todd Campbell – Design Director for Bernhardt Design, Jay Reardon – President, Hickory Chair and Mark Eller – Owner of Philmark Office Furniture. This special exhibition will open on Saturday, May 5th with the judging beginning at noon. The awards reception will take place in the Turchin Center’s galleries from 4-6pm where the top award winners will be announced.
The key evaluation factors of the entries will be adhesion to the brief, ergonomics or attention to comfort, craft and originality. The first place winner will receive $3000, second, $2000 and third, $1000.
