Join us on Thursday evenings throughout the semester to nourish your creative spirit in our studio space at the Turchin Center. Paint Night facilitation will focus on exploring a variety of techniques in a casual and welcoming setting. Bring a friend or come on your own as you play and enjoy the spirit of co-creativity! Hosted by Appalachian State University studio art and expressive art therapy majors Bugs Gallimore and Dani Juarez, these artmaking workshops are open to students, faculty/staff, and community members of all skill levels. Supplies are provided. Registration is required.

This program is brought to you in part by the generous support of the Tina Silverstein Opportunity Fund.

About the Instructor

April Flanders

Bug Vargas Gallimore (they/them) is a Boricua Appalachian queer maker, currently pursuing a BFA in Studio Art with a concentration in ceramics. They hope to continue on to residencies and graduate school, which will help them achieve their goal of one day opening a community clay studio. Bug has worked as a gallery ambassador at the Turchin Center for two years and is passionate about creating inclusive, creative environments. Their art practice reflects the fluidity of identity, exploring themes of gender, sexuality, family dynamics, technology, religion, and politics. While they primarily work with clay, they identify as a mixed-media artist with strong foundations in painting, drawing, metals, and fibers. In their free time, they enjoy hiking, playing with their cats, creating comics, writing music, and collaborating creatively with friends!

Dani Juarez is a native Chicagoan, a career educator, and an art teacher who can’t just choose one medium. The beauty of nature never ceases to amaze her. Dani’s weekends are for grad school homework–school counseling–coffee on the porch, and cooking her 16 year old son’s (who is also attending App this year!) favorite foods.
