Join us on Tuesday evenings throughout the semester to nourish your creative spirit in a community of App State student peers in the studio space at the Turchin Center. Paint Night facilitation will focus on exploring a variety of techniques in a casual and welcoming setting. Bring a friend or come on your own as you play and enjoy the spirit of co-creativity! Hosted by Appalachian State University art education majors, these artmaking workshops are open to all skill levels. All supplies are provided. Registration is required.

About the Instructors

April Flanders

Abigail Cleveland (she/her/hers) is a Junior Art education major. Growing up in a family of all women, Abigail makes art about what it means to be a woman and surrounded by feminine energy, as well as what it means to connect with masculine energy. She’s passionate about highlighting and articulating ways that communities support one another, or don’t support one another, and often visually incorporates public transportation, vegetables and facial features to examine these themes. She works primarily in watercolor and collage, with a recent interest in incorporating fabric into her work. Abigail grew up in Florida and took two gap years before college working on farms and at elementary schools. She loves swimming, being outdoors, and taking her cats on walks.

April Flanders

Isabel Schiro (she/they) is a Junior English creative writing major. Having a deep interest in fantasy going all the way back to elementary school, Isabel uses her artistic abilities to create fantastical stories and characters that she illustrates and writes for. She hopes to use her degree to become an editor of fantasy books for her career, maintaining art as her primary hobby. Isabel has a fascination with the natural human instinct to create and tell stories through art, particularly through unconventional media. She primarily works with pencil and pen, but has a special interest in using paint markers and bright colors for character sketches. Isabel is a native to Western North Carolina, and enjoys animated movies, Dungeons and Dragons, and her sweet cat Egg.
