Appalachian alumna Kim Feigenbaum says this new work, “represents how the conscious mind serves as a tool to communicate the imagery created naturally in the subconscious. Through the use of free-association, the imagery produced reflects the visceral response of the artist to the materials.” The result is a unique group of works that the artist describes as “highly organic non-objective forms combined with emotive color and subtle detailed layers.”
Kim Feigenbaum graduated from Appalachian State University in 2004 with a degree in Painting. Her current style developed through the examination of the painting process in relation to the creator. By exploring the role of the creator and the influence of the subconscious mind, Kim’s style evolved to reflect the creative process that is inherent in most of her work. Heavily influenced by nature and natural textures, her process produces work that grows and changes in synchronization with emotions, ideas, and inspirations. In addition to Fine Art, Kim also works as a freelance Fantasy and Science Fiction illustrator.
Artist statement
“This body of work represents how the conscious mind serves as a tool to communicate the imagery created naturally in the subconsciuous. Through the use of free-association, the imagery produced reflects the visceral response of the artist to the materials. This technique produces highly organic non-objective forms combined with emotive color and subtle detailed layers. Because the process involved in the creation of these works relies solely on the individual personality of the artist, each piece symbolizes a unique aspect of the artist’s subconscious creative mind.”
