Martin Stamat’s work concentrates on the role of nature, microcosms, and found objects that took hold of his imagination as a child. His artistic endeavors are devoted to exploring the whispered histories and infinitesimal detail of the world around us—especially those that would otherwise go unnoticed. The subjects present Stamat’s work span from textures and found objects to cultures and civic concepts. These elements inspire him to create works that not only share a story from the periphery of life and culture, but also assemble a dialogue between audience and concept that is appropriate to the subject itself.

About the artist
A native of the piedmont area of North Carolina, R. Martin Stamat was born in 1987. He studied sculpture, photography, and anthropology at the Australian National University, the University of New Mexico at Taos and Appalachian State University. His interest in nature, science, and culture spark many of his works and the materials from which they are created are often discovered while investigating concepts in these fields. Stamat explores the confluence as well as clash of opposites and seeks to portray non-verbal experiences through layered imagery. The artist’s time is largely spent on his work or invested in areas or experiences that may eventually inspire a new avenue of expression. Stamat lives and works in Boone, North Carolina.
