Geography Matters captures Dunlap’s vast works from personal collections across North Carolina. Dunlap says that he became familiar with the power of place in art through southern literature. Surrounded by so much benevolence, talent, goodwill and glorious landscape, he was captivated by place and people in the creation of his works.
Curated from the holdings of the many private collections that include Dunlap’s work, pieces from his four-decade career will be displayed. William Dunlap had this to say about the curating process of this particular exhibition:
“It’s hard to imagine a more practical way to organize an exhibition than to simply reach out and take what’s available. Once this process became obvious to us, the idea of organizing around some theme, concept or even chronology, paled in comparison to the possibilities of geography.”
