Upcoming ARTSpectrum Lectures and Workshops at the Turchin Center


Boone, NC – Appalachian State University’s Turchin Center for the Visual Arts is offering opportunities to learn more about the artists and the works of the exhibitions on display at the center.

ARTSpectrum Lecture Series

ARTSpectrum Lectures are gallery talks led by the artists exhibiting at the Turchin Center as well as artists leading programs here in our community. Orna Bentor, Artist Gallery Talk 

January 22

Local artist Orna Bentor will discuss the work in her current exhibition, Landscapes Within in the Turchin Center’s Mayer Gallery. Bentor is an award-winning local artist, graphic designer, and art teacher who has lived and worked in both Israel and the United States. New pieces by the artist will also be on display for the event. Images of this exhibition can be viewed on the Turchin Center’s flickr page.

Catherine J Smith Gallery and TCVA present an Art Historian Lecture in conjunction with the Department of Art Faculty 2014 Biennial. More information here.

Pecha Kucha Night

February 26

Faculty members from the Department of Art will host this evening event with short six-minute presentations on their creative research. More information here.

Dream Repeater, IlaSahai Prouty

March 19

Prouty will talk about the concepts and inspiration behind her Dream Repeater exhibition on display from February 7 – March 22. More information here.

Upcoming Workshops

Figure Drawing: Exploring Human Forms and Movements

Thursdays, February  - March 6

7-9 p.m.

This introductory to figure drawing fundamentals will expose participants to key concepts while working from observing the human figure. This workshop is open to the community and free for Appalachian students. More information can be found here.

Inkalicious Continued

Fridays, 9:00 a.m. – Noon

The world of alcohol inks is explored during this three-hour studio opportunity. With no direct instruction, you can get inspired by other the participants! More information about supplies and workshop dates can be found here.
