The Turchin Center hosts the return of the popular "Dia De Los Muertos Day of the Dead." This holiday, in memory of deceased ancestors, is celebrated most notably in Mexico; however it is celebrated in the US, the Philippines, and to a lesser extent in other Latin American countries. In Mexico, despite what might seem to be a macabre subject matter, the holiday is celebrated with great joy. Unlike Halloween, All Saints' Day, and All Souls Day, which occur at the same time, Day of the Dead features a much lighter mood, emphasizing the celebration and honoring of the deceased. Faculty member Rachel Shinnar leads a group of volunteers and students in exploring this vibrant cultural tradition.
