ARTSpectrum Lecture Series: Veiling the Late Roman House

Event date:
Wednesday, February 19, 2014 - 6:30pm - 8:00pm

Art Department faculty member Dr. John Stephenson will explore the roles of textiles, particularly hangings and curtains, in domestic settings of the late Roman period, c. 200-500AD, from a social perspective - how they served the increased concerns with privacy, visibility, mystery, boundaries, and shifting gender relations in late Roman culture.

Angela Bubash, metalsmith/jeweler and lecturer in the Art Department, will be giving a talk about her work beginning at 7:30 immediately following Dr. Stephenson's lecture.

This Art Historian Lecture is presented by the Catherine J Smith Gallery and TCVA in conjunction with the Department of Art Faculty 2014 Biennial exhibition.
