Part-Time Student Employment Opportunities

The Turchin Center offers several part-time employment opportunities for students that support Appalachian’s commitment to academic integrity by providing:

  • Individualized, hands-on training in a real world setting;
  • Leadership roles on integrated projects with visual arts programming;
  • Career enhancement through training opportunities and mentoring;
  • Opportunities for internships, volunteering, research, and special projects; and
  • Valuable interaction with contemporary artists.

A resume and cover letter will be requested from all applicants. Cover letters should directly address your interest in working for the Turchin Center, why you would make an excellent addition to our team, and specify the areas in which you may be interested in working. Areas include: Gallery Ambassadors (Security), Collections, Exhibition Assistants, and general office assistants.

Gallery Ambassador

Location: Turchin Center for the Visual Arts

Job description and responsibilities

The Gallery Ambassador (GA) position acts as a liaison to all guests and visitors of the Turchin Center and reports directly to the Visitor Services Director. This position assists in and is responsible for ensuring the safety of the art and visitors to the center. The GA provides security, assists guests and visitors with questions about exhibitions, assists in the navigation through the facility and encourages a friendly atmosphere. Safety is maintained through a presence in the gallery spaces, through intervention aimed at preventing damaging actions and through periodic patrols, checklists, and security checks in all gallery and non-gallery spaces. Gallery Ambassadors will often be called upon to assist with other clerical duties and special projects. Gallery Ambassadors are expected to work special events throughout the year. These events require setting up and breaking down, cleaning and tending bar.


This person must be highly organized, self-motivated, detail-oriented, and a good problem solver. His/her ability to work with a team is a must. He/she must demonstrate professionalism and continually maintain a clean and neat workspace at all times. Gallery Ambassadors must be observant, dependable and friendly to all center guests and staff. An appreciation for the arts is encouraged and a team spirit is a must.

Normal business hours are Tuesday-Thursday and Saturday 10am – 6pm, Friday 12 - 8pm and special events as scheduled. Applicants must be available to work at least 10 hours per week. Scheduling will be completed on a semester basis to accommodate class schedules. Training for job will be provided. Typically, we hire for this position before the beginning of each semester or as jobs become available.
